In the course "Robot Design and Experimentation," Ph.D. student in mechanical engineering Joseph Norby explains how his team created a galago-inspired jumping robot.

The College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon is a world-class engineering college recognized for excellence, innovation, and its pursuits' societal relevance and impact. We produce creative and technically strong engineers and pioneering research solutions to global challenges. We do this with an unprecedented commitment to integrating engineering, sciences, arts, business, and other disciplines to yield transformative results.

The jumping robot was inspired by the galago animal which has elastic legs that allow it to store energy and release it when jumping. They also studied cats because like galagos, cats have amazing leaping, balance, and landing aspects. The college of engineering wants to use these aspects in the robot.
